Log Scaling and
Grading
The Bureau
provides log scaling and grading services throughout Washington and Alaska. Scaling is
available on a full-time contractual basis in Washington and Alaska or, we provide a
number of log scaling sites in Washington which are open for the scaling and grading of a
single load, or any number of loads, at a fixed cost.
All scalers record log scale data in a
palmtop computer (Hewlett Packard 200LX) which edits the data for "Rule Book"
accuracy. It can also edit for customer defined Sort specifications. The PC validates the
data and produces a printed report for each load or group of logs. The data on the report
can be summarized in several formats. The PC program also has the ability to provide
summary reports of all the data scaled over a period of time. i.e., an entire day.
The data for all loads scaled are electronically
transmitted to the Mainframe computer in Tacoma at the end of each day. The Mainframe
processes and stores the data for reporting and information sharing.
The data that can be recorded for a load
includes:
* Secondary Owners of the Load
* Load and Yard Receipt Numbers
* Load Destination
* Scale Location and Date of Scale
* Trucker and Logger
* Brand(s)
* Source Location Identifier
The data that can be recorded for each log
includes:
* Tag number
* Species and Grade
* Sort Codes (2)
* Dimensions
* Deductions
